Q: Was there a pivotal moment in your life when you realized that your happiness was an internal choice that could be made despite your outside circumstances?
A: There was a time when as a young girl, I believed that things made you happy. Coming from a poor background it seemed that everyone had so much more than we did. As I became an adult I acquired many things…the nice house, designer clothes, the big car…but I wasn’t really happy. Happiness seemed to have passed me by, at least I thought so. One day I simply realized that my happiness was not attached to things I could touch. In fact, my happiness had been there all along…I was looking in the wrong places for it. Happiness is inside your soul and no matter what is going on in your life you can always choose to unwrap the gift of happiness and enjoy.
Q: How do you remind yourself that happiness is always within and catch your footing in those whirlwind moments of life that can throw us off balance?
A: I journal. I have been journaling since I was seven years old. I remind myself where happiness lives by reading those old journals. Reading them not only reminds me the my happiness is internal, it also leaves me feeling so grateful for the journey of peaks and valleys that led me to happiness.
Q: What is your personal definition of happiness today?
A: My definition is happiness today is LOVE. Happiness is in the love I have for my family and friends as well as the love they share with me. God’s agape love for little old me is precious and priceless and creates a shiny beam of happiness in my life. Love enables me to maintain balance in my life and brings me gratitude, joy and immense happiness.
Q. Share three things that bring you happiness.
A: The fact that I have a personal relationship with the Father of all things of course brings me happiness. Breathing air into lungs that once were injured and feeling alive brings me happiness. My husband of forty years brings my tremendous happiness. I know I was asked to share three things…but I have to tell you that my three sons are amazing men and their existence brings me happiness. Last but not least, I have five absolutely awesome grandchildren…Benjamin, Ashton, Aidyn, JaNyiah and Kiaunni. Being a grandmother to these precious ones…my heart overflows with Happiness!
