Who Do You Love?

Who Do You Love?

Ever wonder about LOVE?  I have always wondered about love.  As a little girl I knew the love of my parents.  Growing up I dreamed of meeting a boy who would love me.  I hoped I would have friends who loved me.  When I became a wife and mother and experienced that special kind of love.  However, I never really thought about loving myself.   Actually the thought never occurred to me.  Unfortunately that is pretty common.  We think of love as something we give or receive from others.   Love is one of the fruits of the spirit.  Love has to do with compassion, respect, caring, empathy, understanding, patience, strength and so much more than we think about.  If you look at love as having these attributes why is it that we hardly ever associate it with loving ourselves?  Is it that we don’t think we are worth it?  Perhaps we think it’s a bit self indulgent to love oneself.  Question is if you don’t love yourself do you really believe it when someone says to you “I love you”?  Honestly, do you?  Loving yourself shows others that you are valuable.  It sets a standard by which you receive love from others.  Take a look in the mirror.  No, really take a look in the mirror.  Now, who do you see?  Do you see a woman who has a pretty smile?  Perhaps  you see a woman whose eyes are amazing.  Take a really good look.  Now here’s the hard part…look beyond the physical …. straight into your very heart and soul.  Do you see compassion, respect, caring and empathy?  How about understanding and strength….are you comfortable with what you see?  Here’s another question for you…Can you see God in there?  God loved you first before anyone else knew you existed.  He sees you and He still loves you.  He is probably not happy with some of your mess, but in spite of all that….God Loves You!  Now consider this, if the Father of the Universe loves you…who are you not to?  If you couldn’t see love looking back at you in that mirror…then you got work to do.  The best definition ever written for Love is found in 1 Corinthians 13:4-8.  Love is an awesome fruit and highly beneficial to you on your life journey And walk with God.   Don’t leave home without it.  It’s always good to love others, but love begins with you.  You deserve it…..smile and love yourself.  God does!
